CARDEN HALL, CHESHIRE
The new Carden Hall occupies a site that has seen a sequence of country houses over the past 500 years, the last one destroyed by fire in the early 20th C. The fine landscaped park with its ornamental lake and woodland, the gate houses and farm buildings survive.
The new house provides both informal spaces for everyday family use and formal rooms for special occasions - all contained in a simple classically-inspired design, closely integrated with the large swimming pool complex, the existing farm buildings and the surrounding gardens.
The house is faced with a red sandstone similar to that occurring naturally around the City of Chester and constructed by Pochins of Middlewich.
